NIR (IR) - near infrared radiation (600-860 nm) in which night vision devices operate. Materials with NIR are painted with special dyes with different reflectivity in the infrared range.

How do we see? Our eyes are adapted to the sunlight to a narrow part of the radiation spectrum. In order to better see under insufficient light, night vision devices working in the near infrared range are usually used. Materials (fabrics) with NIR are painted with special dyes with different reflectivity in the infrared range, so that the colors on the fabric have similar reflective abilities the same as on the terrain. Camouflage properties of fabric depend on the correspondence between the reflective and absorbing abilities of the terrain and, as well as in daylight, will not always be good for terrain. For the forest, dyes with a higher ability to absorb infrared radiation, and for arid terrain - with a greater reflectivity, are usually used.
