Membrane is a very thin layer of foamed polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). It contains more than 1.4 billion pores per square centimeter. It is these pores that give the fabric its properties. The membrane consists of very small holes or channels something similar to foam at high magnification. Even so-called "non pores" membrane has channels through which water molecules move.

There are: three-layer membrane, consisting of a base material, the membrane film and the protective mesh from the inside, and two-layer mambrane which consists of only a base material and the membrane film without protective mesh from the inside.



In the construction of three-layer, the membrane is laminated together with both the outer fabric layer and the lining. Advantage: the layers of fabric do not rub between each other, thereby reducing wear and increasing strength.

Each stitch in the seam is a potential leak. Therefore, for maximum water resistance, it's necessary to use the seam sealing tape. Each seam in clothing should be sealed on special machines .
